PRJCT Amsterdam is a young baroque ensemble around countertenor Maarten Engeltjes, founded in 2017. The ensemble is formed by a permanent core of outstanding, recently graduated baroque musicians with their own musical vision. The instrumentalists of PRJCT Amsterdam play on authentic instruments, restored old instruments, or reconstructed copies thereof. Artistic director Maarten Engeltjes always seeks to collaborate with other experienced, internationally established top musicians, as concertmaster and/or soloist.
In September 2017, the ensemble presented its first project with great success: Stabat Mater by Pergolesi, in collaboration with the writer P.F. Thomése. A now large number of special projects followed. For the coming years, PRJCT Amsterdam has a large number of plans, ranging from from CD recordings and various concerts to larger projects, in which not only music but also other aspects from the baroque period play a role. World stars such as Andreas Scholl and Rolando Villazon will be taking part; the ensemble will make its debut in the main hall of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
PRJCT Amsterdam took its first two albums on the prestigious SONY Classical label. The first album "Forgotten arias" was released in February 2019 and the album CD "Nicht Mehr Hier" was released in 2020. Both albums were very well received by the national and international press.
