Conductor

For years the conducting profession has intrigued him. But since taking the plunge during some recordings and tours with his own orchestra, he has become particularly enthusiastic. For Maarten, it feels like pure magic to achieve a synergy that gives the musicians confidence, lets them play better and, in addition, makes the music really come alive.

For now he listens and looks around a lot at what other conductors do-but also what they don't do or could do differently-and takes lessons in conducting technique. For Maarten it feels like an enormous privilege that there is still a whole world to learn from, to discover and to perform!

Maarten conducted the program 'If music be the food of love' in a european tour with Andreas Scholl and PRJCT Amsterdam, Cantata BWV 56 'Ich will den Kreuzstab gerne tragen' sung by Andreas Wolf during the recording for Sony and European tour of the program 'Nicht mehr hier' and the recording for Sony with Forgotten arias by J.S. Bach with PRJCT Amsterdam.

Under the direction of Maarten Engeltjes, the ensemble never gives in to the sometimes artificial enthusiasms into which more than one conductor can be drawn in this treacherously flattering repertoire.
